Special Vintage Wine School & Iconic Wine Nights Every Weekend
The Vineyard celebrates maturity like no other hotel. The more matured the better in fact! With over 3,000 different bottles of wine available at the UK’s wine hotel, the term ‘Ageing Gracefully’ can be applied to many wines in the hotel’s vast cellar.
Within the ‘Champagne and Sparkling’ list a 1989 Schramsberg Vineyards, J. Schram, Brut is available priced at only £102.00 or for that ultimate celebration a magnum of 1975 Dom Perignon is available at £1700.00.
Within the ‘Red’ list a 1983 Château Cos d’Estournel, 2eme Cru Classé is available and priced £250.00 or stepping a few years further back, a 1961 Château Léoville Las Cases, 2eme Cru Classé is available and priced £680.00. White wine lovers can opt for a 1993 Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc, Rhône Valley which is priced £150.00.
The oldest bottle at The Vineyard is a bottle of 1921 Château Cantemerle, 5eme Cru Classé from the Haut Médoc in Bordeaux, an interesting bottle for anyone celebrating a big birthday and available at £340 for the bottle.
A special event is being held on 3rd September with Alan Holmes (pictured with Daniel Galmiche), The Vineyard’s Restaurant and Wine Director; ‘Ageing Gracefully’- a celebration of wines that become better with age, where he will give a fascinating insight into buying wines for future ageing and investment. This event includes a tasting of six to eight wines and is priced at £30.00 per person. Add an overnight for two including breakfast from £144.50 per person.
For those seeking more in depth wine knowledge including information on wines that get better over time, tasting and other subjects, they are covered on WSET (Wine and Spirit Education Trust) courses. These full day courses are available throughout the year and include an industry exam and certificate. The following courses are scheduled for Monday 21st July, Monday 18th August, Saturday 20th September, Sunday 19th October, Sunday 23rd November and Sunday 7th December.
All guests staying at The Vineyard on a Friday or Saturday evening are invited to enjoy iconic wines which are opened each weekend. Iconic Wine Nights showcase exceptional wines by the glass at cost price carefully selected by Alan Holmes. Each iconic wine has been chosen for its prestige and critical acclaim and then offered to guests to drink by the glass. It’s The Vineyard’s way of inviting guests to try the finest wines at affordable prices.
Guests may want to select a wine that celebrates an occasion, a moment in time, a birthday etc. Says Alan Holmes on how to select an ageing wine; “It always pays to read the vintage reports and follow the trade or merchant reports before making any investment, a good merchant will have inside knowledge and should point you in the right direction. Alternatively, stick to what you know and like, at least then you can drink it and enjoy the wine if investment doesn’t pay off!”
Celebrate ageing at its best at The Vineyard.
