WSET (Wine and Spirit Education Trust) courses at The Vineyard in Berkshire are available for all palates with Level 1, 2 and 3 Awards running throughout 2014, allowing wine fans to further enhance their knowledge. These courses result in internationally recognised wine qualifications.
The Vineyard is all about wine, offering superior food & wine experiences including both a Wine School and WSET Courses for those seeking formal recognition of their interest and knowledge in wine. Level 1 is ideal for anyone with an interest in wine looking to learn more about the different wine styles, food & wine pairing and the correct way to store and serve wine. The course lasts one day and includes an exam and wines. A three course lunch with matching wines in The Vineyard’s restaurant is also served along with a detailed tour of the 30,000 bottle cellars. Some of the topics covered include ‘Types and Styles of wine’, ‘Grape Varieties’, ‘Food & Wine Matching’ and ‘Wine Service & Storage’. Priced £150 per person, all guests receive a study book and professional WSET tuition. The courses run on Sundays in 2014: 19th January/9th February/6th April and 18th May.
Level 2 is run over three days and is ideal for enthusiastic amateurs and those looking to enter the wine industry. The course covers the major grape varieties, regions of the world, food and wine pairing, sparkling wines, fortified wines and the major spirits. As part of the course guests enjoy a three course lunch with matching wines each day in The Vineyard’s elegant restaurant. This course offers the tasting of 44 wines and 4 spirits whilst developing detailed knowledge of key grape varieties and more diverse varieties. An exam is taken at the end of the course and like all WSET courses an internationally recognised qualification certificate is given to all. Priced £385 per person and includes six ISO tasting glasses to take home. These courses run on Mondays including 20th & 27th January, Monday 3rd, 10th, 17th & 24th February, Monday 31st March, Monday 7th, 14th April, Monday 19th, 26th May and Monday 2nd June.
For wine enthusiasts, the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines and Spirits will tick all the boxes and is delivered in a detailed and structured manner over 5 days (4 weeks – 1st, 2nd, 8th, 15th and 29th April). The course provides a detailed analysis of the principal wines and spirits of the world. Guests also develop their analytical tasting skills in an in-depth tasting where they’ll learn to identify product style and quality. During intense studying, The Vineyard will treat guests to a relaxing three course lunch with matching wines each day. Up to 76 wines and 6 spirits are tasted during the course and subjects include; ‘Decode and understand labels’, ‘Learn about styles of light wines produced in the key wine regions & districts of the world’, ‘Methods of fortified wine production’ and ‘Methods of spirit and liqueur production’ amongst other detailed subjects.
With an award winning wine list; over 30,000 bottles, 3,000 bins and 100 wines to taste by the glass, guests will leave with a unique qualification and a fresh perspective on all things wine.
