Celebrate English Wines at the UK’s Wine Hotel

English wines are becoming increasingly popular both at home and abroad with many being distinguished by prestigious awards. The UK’s wine hotel; The Vineyard serves a selection of English wines that celebrate the diversity of wineries and vineyards across the UK. Nyetimber sparkling wines are the ideal starting point on an English wine journey at The Vineyard before a paired dining menu in the restaurant. Two Classic Cuvée, one Blanc de Blancs, one Rosé and one Demi-Sec by Nyetimber are currently on the extensive wine list of some 3000 wines at the hotel.
With English Wine Week (24th May – 1st June) promoting and showcasing the fine wines of England, The Vineyard is the ideal destination for a discovery of various English wine styles. The wine list includes several White wines including a 2012 Chapel Down, Bacchus priced £45.00 per bottle and a 2011 Chapel Down, Chardonnay/Hüxelrebe/Schönburger, Flint Dry priced £40.00 per bottle. A recommended English Rosé is the 2011 Chapel Down, Pinot Noir/Rondo from Kent. English Red wines are not as popular as Sparkling and White wines but at The Vineyard guests can experience the 2011 Gusbourne, Pinot Noir priced £83.00 per bottle. For those with a sweet tooth, from Gloucestershire, a 2011 Three Choirs, Siegerrebe, Late Harvest, Cellar Door Release is available. The Vineyard also offers a selection of everyday drinking wines priced under £30.00 carefully chosen by the hotel’s Sommeliers and these include a Sparkling 2005 Danebury, Cossack, Brut from Hampshire.
The Vineyard’s Restaurant and Wine Director, Alan Holmes who oversees The Vineyard hotel’s extensive cellar holding 30,000 bottles comments on the rise in popularity of English wines; “Not since Roman times has English wine been in such demand! With sparkling wines leading the way in both quality and quantity consumed it is definitely time for you to try one today. Available by the glass throughout the week will be a variety of styles of sparkling wine, or alternatively try one of our Bubbles Galore flights and compare three at once!”.
Visitors to The Vineyard can learn more about wine and gain an internationally recognised wine qualification whilst enjoying fine wine and dining at The Vineyard. WSET courses are available throughout the year at various levels. Level 1 is ideal for anyone with an interest in wine looking to learn more about the different wine styles, food & wine pairing and the correct way to store and serve wine. The course lasts one day and includes an exam and wines. Forthcoming dates in 2014 include Saturday 28th June, Monday 21st July, Monday 18th August, Saturday 20th September, Sunday 19th October, Sunday 23rd November and Sunday 7th December. Day courses are priced from £150.00 per person.
