The beginning of the year saw The Headland in North Cornwall unveil Cornwall’s largest spa. The spa includes six luxury spacious treatment rooms, a couples treatment room with its own hydrotherapy bath and a rhassoul mud room. The adjoining ‘Leisure Area’ includes a heated pool with a jet stream and bubble seats, Swedish sauna, Cornish salt steam room, aromatherapy showers and hot tub. In addition earlier this year, The Headland also unveiled a state-of-the-art Life Fitness gym.
This winter, AFYNA a Cornish brand was introduced to The Headland. The organic skincare products by AFYNA penetrate quickly into the skin whilst delivering excellent results. The groundbreaking product formulations use certified organic ingredients combined with powerful bio-extracts such as hyaluronic acid and lupine peptides. AFYNA is expertly hand blended in Cornwall and was created by spa therapist Sara Young. The Headland Spa now includes the ‘AFYNA Total Body Detox’; a luxurious treatment that tones and softens the body with gentle skin brushing. This is followed by massaging using AFYNA Detoxifiying Body Oil, to hydrate and nourish the skin whilst encouraging the body to detox itself. It concludes with a mini facial to cleanse and hydrate, while a head massage clears and calms the mind.
Three new spa breaks have been unveiled, each named after a room category available at The Headland Hotel which is home to 96 bedrooms.
– Ocean – Enjoy an Overnight Escape (Priced from £499 based on two sharing per night)
Delicious nibbles for two served in The Spa Lounge ahead of a Back neck and shoulder massage each lasting 30 minutes and The Headland Signature Body Scrub each followed by a Seaweed Bath and smoothie, this treatment lasts 70 minutes. The next day guests enjoy breakfast in bed.
– Fistral – Stay Away from it all (Priced from £649 based on two sharing per night)
Guests enjoy a mouth-watering two course lunch with a glass of fizz per person, served in The Spa Lounge followed by a Back neck and shoulder massage complimented with a scalp massage lasting 40 minutes plus an AFYNA Total Body Detox Experience lasting 75 minutes each. The next day guests enjoy breakfast in bed with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Guests start the break by indulging in a two course lunch with a bottle of Champagne, served in The Spa Lounge facing Fistral Beach before enjoying a Headland Spa Signature Treatment for 90 minutes followed by an Indian Head Massage lasting 30 minutes. The next morning guests relax in bed with a Champagne breakfast whilst watching the waves on the Atlantic Ocean heading towards Fistral Beach.
All guests on the three spa breaks enjoy a fruit platter in their bedrooms and Turn-Down items including a chocolate mint and Elemis Lavender Spritz.
The Headland feel strongly about preserving the naturally beautiful, wild and windswept landscape that surrounds it. The family run hotel have for many years helped keep Cornwall a beautiful place and initiatives include; Conservation work with an optional guest contribution to the National Trust of £1 which has helped improve access between Bedruthan Steps and Holywell Bay. Earlier this year The Headland presented the National Trust with a cheque for £13,000. The Headland Hotel buy locally, celebrating local Cornish produce whilst supporting sustainable practices in farming and fishing. A hotel this big requires ongoing renovation and The Headland operate a Free-cycle & Re-use policy offering all furniture, beds, baths and loos to local charities. Recycling is conducted throughout the hotel and glass, plastic, cardboard, paper, tins, cans and food waste are all sorted.
The Headland monitor waste recycling to ensure they are always thinking about the environment. In the operation of the business during 2010 The Headland generated 707 cubic yards of waste for disposal; 385 cubic yards were diverted from landfill to recycling, 183 cubic yards of this was food waste which went to anaerobic digestion and helped produce electricity for 20,000 homes. The Headland is a member of the ‘Green Tourism Business Scheme’ helping to focus on how best to operate the business in a sustainable manner whilst minimising the impact on the environment.
