Sailing 2 1024x682 Discover Cape Verde’s Island Life with Sail Cape VerdeSail & Explore Stunning Sands, Turquoise Sea & Year-Round Sunshine

An archipelago of ten islands, situated in the Atlantic Ocean, 500km off the coast of West Africa, Cape Verde ticks all the boxes for a year-round holiday whilst remaining relatively undiscovered. Sail Cape Verde offers unique voyages of discovery from marina Mindelo on the island of São Vicente. Aboard Perseverance (pictured above & below), a 54ft luxury yacht, visitors experience every part of the magic of these islands including the tropical island of Santo Antao. The cultural island of São Vicente where you set sail from offers unique sounds as the musical melting pot island! For white sandy beaches the islands of Sal and Boa Vista are ideal or for a dramatic backdrop the 3km high volcano island of Fogo awaits.

On overnight trips Perseverance can hold 6-8 guests comfortably in four double cabins. Facilities include en-suite showers, air conditioning, television & music systems and much more. A crew of three look after guests and are fluent in English, Portuguese, French, German, Dutch and Cape Verde Creole. Perseverance normally sails on an all-inclusive basis and all meals are served on board and prepared by the crew. A continental breakfast is served daily and lunch & dinner are prepared with fresh ingredients of the day including fish which is caught on the basis of what will be consumed – nothing here is wasted.

Cape Verde’s diverse islands offer visitors the opportunity to discover unique landscapes ideal for walking and exploring wildlife; four species of turtles (Loggerhead, Hawksbill, Leatherback and Green Turtles) visit the Cape Verde islands as they cross the Atlantic. There is a variety of bird species on Cape Verde with many endemic to the islands including the Bannerman’s Buzzard, the Cape Verde Peregrine and the Raso Lark. Scuba divers can see an impressive range of tropical fish, including parrot fish, angelfish, groupers, moray eels, manta rays, barracudas and sharks (including the nurse and tiger sharks), marine turtles and even whale sharks if you are lucky. Humpback whales can be spotted off the coastline from February to June.

Depending on the duration of each cruise, over a week for example guests visit St Luzia, an uninhabited island or Boa Vista where quad drives can be organised on the beach. For two week cruises Sail Cape Verde will take guests to the southern islands of Santiago and Fogo for more exploration.

For visitors wishing to explore an island for longer, located in the heart of Mindelo’s historic centre, Villa St Aubyn is a private Portuguese/British colonial-style house which has been newly refurbished into a modern and luxurious three storey house. The house is the ideal base to explore the beautiful island of São Vicente. For those seeking to recharge the Wellness options at the house include a panoramic hot tub perfect at sunset; an infra-red sauna to relax the muscles; reclining in the sun on the terrace throughout the day is always an option too. For those wishing to work out in their own private gym this too is available. In addition hyperbaric oxygen therapy is offered along with a selection of relaxing and invigorating massages from one of the trained masseuses.

São Vicente is located to the north-west of the Cape Verde archipelago. The interior of the island has a dramatic mountainous terrain, and the coastal areas offer golden sand beaches. São Vicente is the most cultural of the islands with a rich tradition of music and art. Visitors are almost always guaranteed sunny skies with a warm, dry climate and no hurricane season.

Set sail on your voyage of discovery and discover the land of Cesária Évora; “In our dreams, this garden is not dead. The force of perseverance still tends it. Cape Verde is green in our hearts. Full of love, our hands will make the land grow green” . &
