Palais Amani showcases the finest in the art of Moroccan living and is located within Fez’s magical UNESCO World Heritage Site medina. The vast maze of 10,000 streets within the medina is home to many Moroccan home furnishing traditions. This is Morocco’s ultimate bazaar and Palais Amani have unveiled a Souk & Spa break in the walled medieval city that will ensure guests not only ‘get the look’ of a Moroccan riad but relax with the traditional Moroccan hammam.
Palais Amani is a listed art deco building partly rebuilt in the 1930’s. By 2012 following an almost four year restoration, Palais Amani had undergone a complete refurbishment and all 14 suites, roof terrace, restaurant, bar and hammam offer the finest authentic and traditional Moroccan decoration and interiors. The 600m2 garden is at the centre of the palace leading to the front door of Palais Amani which opens out to the inspirational medina.
Each district in the medina specialises in a certain craft. With Palais Amani being set on the edge of the oldest part of the medina it is the most convenient location for the crafts district. The hotel provides visitors with an invaluable little black book of contacts for those wanting to come and source beauty for their homes inspired by Palais Amani and Morocco. Palais Amani have contacts with the leather works for skins, large stools and a multitude of leather covered household items. Stunning pottery that is both affordable and diverse can be sourced just a short walk from Palais Amani as can copper works including intricate lace copper work for light fittings, trays, mirrors, tables and more. All can be created in a bespoke made-to-measure way.
Of course, the medina shopping experience in Fez would not be complete without experiencing a carpet seller. Enjoy a mint tea and watch the exciting sales pitch of the seller. Even if visitors don’t want to buy a carpet, they will be surprised at the diversity and the affordability of certain pieces.
Embroidery too that can be adapted for soft furnishings but also mosaics made to measure can be found in this magical medina. All mosaics are set on resin to be easily laid in the home. Panels for kitchens, bathrooms and hallways can be made to measure, safely packaged and shipped.
Palais Amani can also organise for a personal shopper to be appointed to save time and accompany guests through sourcing and negotiations.
After a day of shopping, guests are invited to return to Palais Amani for a hammam treatment. The hammam is designed in true Moroccan style complete with a hot room, an exfoliation room, separate showers and a luxury relaxation chamber. The ‘Royal Hammam’ treatment lasts 1 hour 15 minutes and transports guests into the ritual of purification not found outside of this fascinating country. A hand and foot bath with sea salt crystals starts the journey and this is followed by a pumice stone foot scrub using a natural rose water and bran scrub. A clear water rinse is then applied. The head is also treated and a Natural Henna or White clay ‘Ghasoul’ hair mask is applied, this is followed by a gentle shampoo and clear water rinse.
