Once graced by Louis XVIII, exiled King of France, and today an Historic House Hotel of the National Trust, the Grade-I listed house, which has both Jacobean and Georgian facades, boasts some of England’s most stunning gardens. The house has 32 superbly appointed bedrooms and suites, some named after the members of the Court of Louis XVIII. Hartwell Court, originally the eighteenth century coach house and situated approximately one hundred yards from the house, has been restored to provide 16 bedrooms and suites.

Hartwell Spa resides in the grounds with a mosaic-lined indoor pool, sauna and steam rooms, gym and Spa Café overlooking the pool and opening out on to a terrace in summertime. The Rejuvenating BIOEFFECT Experience package from 9.30am until 4.00pm is priced £150.00 (Monday to Thursday) or £160.00 (Friday to Sunday) and includes use of the Health and Fitness spa facilities, a two-course lunch in the Spa Café and Bar with tea or coffee and the 85-minute BIOEFFECT ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE treatment.

After a BIOEFFECT spa treatment, guests can explore the National Trust gardens. By the middle of the 18th century most of the formality in the grounds had been swept away and the garden was landscaped by a contemporary of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, one Richard Woods.

Guests can enjoy special walks around the grounds of the Historic House Hotel,  with a copy of their Tree Map, to identify 10 prize specimens, from a Horse Chestnut and a London Plane tree to a Giant Sequoia (an 87- ft conifer which bears cones all year round).

Start at Lime Avenue, where guests look down an avenue of lime trees. Explore some 234 trees over a mile long. Budding arborists will also spot a large, shapely Walnut tree before you reach the Egyptian Well and Spring (a folly built in 1850). Walnut is highly prized by furniture makers for its fine, straight grained timber. By autumn you should see the tree covered in large edible, fruits.

Growing by the ice house in the park is a Cedar of Lebanon; and to the right of the house a magnificent Sycamore (the tree was originally introduced to this country by the Romans).

On the west lawn, guests will also spot four Tulip Trees (the glossy green leaves are tulip-shaped, turning a bright gold colour in autumn). And don’t miss the Chusan Fan Palm, introduced around 1850 from China.

Throughout the walks, guests encounter unique garden buildings and statues including the Gothic tower, a statue of Hercules and a portion of the statue of Marsya. The Canal Temple stands at the end of what used to be the Long Canal, the statues of Jupiter and Juno can be found here. The Rusticated Arch was moved to the garden’s southern perimeter and the Obelisk and William III’s Column are still to be found in the garden. The grounds also contain two all-weather tennis courts and a croquet lawn.

Note to Editors: BIOEFFECT skincare products are the world’s first to contain EGF cellular activator made in plants. Through 10 years of biotechnology research in Iceland, scientists are able to instruct the barley plant to make EGF in its seed, which is identical to the EGF in our skin. The unique efficacy of BIOEFFECT skincare products has been proven in random, double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical studies. BIOEFFECT has won numerous prestigious awards and has a loyal following amongst international beauty editors, celebrities, VIPs and experts. BIOEFFECT products are available at Harrods, Liberty, NET-A-PORTER, Selfridges and Bioeffect.co.uk
