Meet Helen Lederer at Llangoed Hall – Literary Lunch on Thursday 3rd December
1 Dec 2015
This Thursday 3rd December, Absolutely Fabulous actress, writer and comedian Helen Lederer will be telling guests at Llangoed Hall over lunch the background to her debut novel, Losing It. The novel, a comedy, tells the story of a middle-aged woman’s increasingly crazed efforts to slim.
Starting off as a quirky stand-up at The Comedy Store in the 1980s, Helen is best known on TV for five series of Ab-Fab, as well as Love Soup, The Young Ones and most recently Hollyoaks. Her theatre credits include The Vagina Monologues and Calendar Girls.
Llangoed Hall is a classically restored Jacobean country house hotel set in 17 acres of landscaped grounds in the Wye Valley in mid-Wales, with breathtaking views across the surrounding woodlands and fields to the Black Mountains.
The mansion house is built on the site of Llangoed Castle. In 1912, Clough Williams-Ellis (who designed the Italianate village of Portmeirion, immortalised by the cult TV series, The Prisoner) re-designed it as a country house, retaining the original Jacobean porch.
After Laura Ashley’s premature death, 30 years ago, her husband Sir Bernard Ashley bought Llangoed in her memory. The 23 bedrooms of the Grade II-listed hotel are individually decorated with antiques, floral fabrics and heavily patterned wallpapers – some with original Laura Ashley wallpaper.
For tickets please call 01874 754525. The event starts at 12pm with a drinks reception followed by lunch at 1pm where Helen will present her book. Signed copies available at the end of the lunch.
