The Vineyard Hotel is the UK’s wine hotel, home to some 30,000 bottles of wine and an award-winning restaurant. Earlier this year, Robby Jenks was appointed Head Chef and soon he was awarded an Acorn Award recognising him as one of the industries rising stars.
The hotel’s motto is ‘Eat. Sleep. And drink wine’ and in order to ensure that the best wines are offered, a head sommelier must possess superior wine knowledge. Introducing Romain Bourger… winner of the UK Young Sommelier of the Year 2016, in August Romain went on to be awarded silver in the International Final of the Jeunes Sommelier Competition which was organised by The Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, an international gastronomic society. Members of a local Bailliage are part of a worldwide organisation with more than 25,000 members in over 80 countries.
This winter, Robby and Romain will be ensuring all guests at The Vineyard embark on a journey of discovery. Several new menu launches and events are scheduled including:

Wine Festival Weekend – 25th – 26th November
Awarded 2015 European Hotel Wine List of the Year by World of Fine Wine, The Vineyard is the ideal place to experience some of the leading wines in the world. Over a weekend in November, 150 wines will be available to taste. The Wine Festival Weekend begins with a five-course dinner on the Friday night matched with a superb wine per course (selected from wineries who will be showcasing their wines for guests to taste the following day). The next day after breakfast, Saturday, over 150 wines will be available to taste from suppliers around the globe between 11am and 4.30pm. Visitors can have fun and deepen their wine knowledge, speak with suppliers and winemakers, and attend masterclasses throughout the event. Wine tasting ticket available to non-guests priced £30 per person. Winemakers include Peter Michael Winery, Schramsberg, Rudd Estate, Champagne Taittinger and Les Caves de Pyrene among others. Five course dinner with matched wines, overnight stay, breakfast, use of spa and entry to wine festival including tasting ticket is priced from £707.00 per room, based on two guests sharing a luxury double room.
Christmas Getaway Two Night Break – 24th – 26th December
On Christmas Eve a 5pm wine masterclass welcomes guests into the festive spirit, with a three-course dinner at 7pm and carol singers at 8pm. On Christmas Day, there’s a leisurely breakfast before a five-course Christmas lunch and buffet dinner at 7pm. Boxing Day includes breakfast and continued use of the award-wining spa with indoor pool. Two-night Christmas package from £1430 per room based on two guests sharing a luxury double room.
Twixmas / Chill Out and Revive One Night Stay
Throughout December* (*excluding 24th, 25th, 30th and 31st) and in between Christmas and New Year, guests can indulge in a three-course dinner and a visit to the spa with its wine-themed treatments for a short relaxing stay between festivities. One 25 minute treatment per person and unlimited use of the spa including indoor swimming pool and breakfast the next day are included. One-night package from £480 per room based on two guests sharing a luxury double room.
New Year’s Eve Two Night Break – 30th December – 1st January 2017
The Judgement of Paris (or the Paris Wine Tasting of May 24 1976) is seen as one of the most pivotal moments in wine history and the event has just celebrated its 40th anniversary. The break includes a three-course dinner on 30th December and breakfast the next day, afternoon tea and a six course dinner with matching wines, from the Judgement of Paris tasting, on New Year’s Eve accompanied by a live band and fireworks. New Year’s Day kicks off with a bubbles and brunch, the perfect way to see in 2017. From £1398.00 based on two guests sharing a luxury double room.
Head Chef Robby Jenks’ style and approach is classical cooking using modern techniques and at The Vineyard hotel he has access to the best local, sustainable and seasonal produce. His experience includes working at some of the UK’s most gastronomic hotels including Gidleigh Park under Michael Caines MBE and Whatley Manor working with Martin Burge. Robby started at Gidleigh Park as a Commis Chef and rose through the ranks with Michael’s support to return at a later stage as Senior Sous Chef.
The Vineyard hotel’s menus include the Discovery Tasting Menu (5 dishes £75.00), the Judgement of Paris Tasting Menu (7 dishes £89.00), a Vegetarian Tasting Menu, a lunch menu (3 courses £29.00), a dinner menu (3 courses £65.00) and a more relaxed California Bar Menu. Afternoon tea is also available daily and Pastry Chef Anthony Millon works directly with Robby to deliver this simple, light and fresh menu.
