As visitors walk down the old-world street of St James’s Street in the direction of St James’s Park, the town houses, exclusive shops and wine merchants all stand out offering a diverse timeless landscape. At the heart of St James’s is The Stafford London, one of the UK’s finest five-star hotels.

Above Ground
The independent historic hotel is as timeless as the city it belongs to. Founded in 1912, The Stafford London is home to 105 individually decorated bedrooms and suites split across the Main House and the Carriage House, each filled with English decor. The Lyttelton Restaurant is open daily serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner and serves Modern European dishes by Head Chef Carlos Martinez. The American Bar at The Stafford is an institution in its own right. During WW2 The Stafford served as a club for American and Canadian officers until 1945. Today, The American Bar’s collection of memorabilia is a mix of items donated by guests of the hotel started by an American guest who donated a wooden carving of an American eagle. Every available wall and surface is crammed and aside from diverse memorabilia, celebrity fans have also signed photographs for the walls. Needless to say the large American guest list at The Stafford London spend hours exploring the bar. The bar is open until 1am daily.

Under Ground
The Stafford Wine Cellars built in the 17th Century by Lord Francis Godolphin are 380 years old and today house some 8,000 bottles of the finest wine. These cellars are available for a selection of events. The compelling history of the cellars includes being used as an air-raid shelter in WW2. As visitors arrive they are greeted with an informal museum of artefacts left behind in wartimes. The Stafford London’s Master Sommelier Gino Nardella oversees the hotel’s wine operations, his 40 years experience makes his wine pairing dinner events both entertaining and educational. The next wine pairing events include: 13th May with a focus on White Burgundy, 22nd May with a focus on Shiraz, 12th June with a focus on Burgundy, 26th June with a focus on South Africa, 24th July with a focus on Italy with further dates throughout the year.

On The Ground
Stepping away from the usual tourist trail, The Stafford London’s Executive Concierge Frank Laino has unveiled ‘The Secrets of St James’s’ walking tours that take guests at the hotel onto the streets of hidden St James’s. Here Frank introduces gas lit alleyways, tucked away places where history was made and guarantees entry to some of London’s historical establishments and hidden gems. The tours take place each month and are priced £35.00 per person and last 3 hours. The hotel’s ‘Frankly Speaking’ newsletter is produced by Frank each month and offers insight into some of the finest lifestyle attractions that month. Frank also introduces current exhibitions across England’s capital and ‘Frankly Speaking’ celebrates London as a timeless city and hub of culture.

The Secrets Within
